Fantastic realism and eerily unsettling characters dominate the work of Ștefan Câlția. His preference for values, traditions, and divinity transforms his works into real pictorial poems. He tells stories with signs, lines, and shapes, creating a perfect literature of ink on paper. The grammar used by the artist is closely linked to plastic signs. He works meticulously and sets a very clear geometry. In Câlția's work, even figurative painting can be broken down into several elements. He picks up fragments from other people's stories and transforms them into a pretext for image and color. He will be particularly concerned with the theme of travel. The moments that the artist spends in nature can be discerned as genuine initiatory journeys. He identifies two possible ways to decipher the journey. In the denotative sense, Câlția identifies a horizontal path, in which the landscape gradually disappears. In the connotative sense, which he will adopt and use in his work, the artist refers to what he calls "the true journey", where the character floats and rises above the earthly plan, covering a much wider horizon of knowledge. The motif of the flight is introduced this time through the recurring element, in the form of wings. But both the wings and the flower bouquets introduce us to the daydreaming universe proposed by the artist in his works.
