ANDREESCU, Viorica, ”Rodica Maniu”, Meridiane Publishing House, Bucharest, 1987.

oil on cardboard, 49.5 x 70 cm, Signed and dated lower left, in pencil, "R. Maniu, 1922"

Whether she's painting boats moored in ports, or focusing on canvases through which gusts of wind break; whether she's painting Douarnenez, the Danube Delta, Șopârlița, Balchik or Agapia, Rodica Maniu creates true compositions, carefully studied, for which she will be rewarded with prizes in Paris or Barcelona. The encounter with Balchik will take place against the backdrop of the trips made alongside her partner, the painter Samuel Mützner, along the Black Sea. The house with a terrace built right above the gulf will be the home-studio during the warm season and will serve as an endless source of inspiration for the artists. The couple will undoubtedly become an important presence within the group of artists who gathered in the summer at Balchik. The Black Sea settlement will be perceived as a space of imagination, rich in pictorial motifs, so we will often find the blue of the sky and the sea, the white of the rocks and houses, or the brown inserts from fences and roofs. The human silhouettes will also be omnipresent, the tatar women covered with veils will often be arranged in the landscape, merging and embracing its color.
