Reprezentant al Academiillor germane de la Dresda, în 1845 și Düsseldorf, în 1847, Robert Schultze este recunoscut drept pictor de peisaj, în special pentru peisajele montane, cărora se va dedica începând cu anul 1852, când va face mai multe călătorii de studiu prin sudul Germaniei, Elveția și nordul Italiei. Va aprofunda studiul de peisaj în atelierul maestrului Johann Wilhelm Schirmer, între anii 1849-1850. (G.M)
