The Military Order of War "Mihai Viteazul" is the highest military distinction of war in Romania, established by King Ferdinand through the High Decree no. 2968 of September 26, 1916, and ratified by the High Decree no. 3249 of December 21 of the same year. The order was intended to reward "exceptional acts of war by officers who distinguished themselves in front of the enemy". According to article 1, it was organized in three classes III, II and I - with the express specification that "no one can obtain a higher class if he is not decorated with class III".
