Johann Stumpf (1500-1578) was a Swiss theologian, historian, and cartographer of German origin. After converting to Protestantism, he settled in Zurich and began working on the compilation of a History of Switzerland, a monumental work that established him as a man of letters. Also, he produced an Atlas first published in 1562 that included this map of Europe, a piece that was eliminated from the second edition released in 1566.
