Medalia celebra victoria obținută de armata română condusă de principele domnitor Carol I pe frontul balcanic în timpul Războiului de Independență. Pe avers domină figura lui Carol în profil spre stânga, cu o cunună de laur pe cap. Pe revers, o amplă legendă în limba latină amintește momentul și înconjoară ceea ce urma să fie stema regatului.
