Născut în Dijon în anul 1855, Louis Auguste primeşte primele lecţii de sculptură de la tatăl său, familia Moreau fiind în fapt o dinastie de sculptori, fraţii artistului parcurgând acelaşi drum. Continuă studiile în aprofundarea sculpturii cu artiştii Aimé Millet, Augustin Drumont şi Jean Thomas.
Sculpturile realizate de Louis Auguste Moreau stau astăzi mărturie ca primele aparţinând stilului Art Nouveau. Stilul său realist şi viguros şi concomitent graţios şi vegetal, i-au adus renume în epocă.
