Madonna candlesticks naturally emerged from bronze casting technology, the first stage, when the wax shape is made. The artist Reka Dup has been working using this technique since 1992, and the first Madonna candlesticks appeared in 2012, together with her personal exhibition "INSIGNIA". "The celestial, superhuman origin of fire and its link to the bowels of the earth, with the minerals, and therefore with the governing divinity, the Mother Earth as the primordial entity present in most primitive cultures, makes the natural and explicit transfer from the artists preference for mysticism, esotericism and religious ritual to the hypostases of femininity in relation to them (unless their connection was made in the intimate genealogy of her artistic practice in the opposite direction, or reciprocal and ambivalent). Artistically, she investigates the prehistoric cults of female deities, persistent throughout the evolution of societies and cultures, metamorphosed, transferred, segregated and then reintegrated, then banned, re-approved, censored or formalized in human societies through the practices of images."
