Influențat de creația lui Bourdelle și de cea a lui Ivan Meštrović, Caragea avea să se impună în sculptura românească prin alegerea unui umanism propriu, stilizat și monumental. Devenit după 1944 cel mai reprezentativ sculptor al oficialităților comuniste, Artist Emerit și șef al UAP, Caragea dezvolta cicluri importante atât pentru statuaria mică, cât mai ales pentru cea monumentală, publică.
