PROVENANCE

the collection of graphic artist Henri Daniel; Mihai Gavrilă Collection.

Embracing quite a wide area of Romania - several towns in Moldavia, Dobrudja, Wallachia and Transylvania - Gheorghe Petrașcu will often concentrate on the Dobrudjan space in particular, as its dry landscape and oriental atmosphere will satisfy the vision of a painter who is eager to transpose on his canvases the beauty of the mineral world. Being attracted to this space ever since his student years, the artist will make several journeys close to the Black Sea, where he will practice outdoor painting. His motifs, elements of a terrestrial nature, would appear around nature's normal course, teaching the artist a lesson in stability and balance.
