Arnold Chencinski, of Polish origin, was born in 1900 at Prundul Bărgăului, and he would later use the name of this place for his alias. Between 1923 and 1930 he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Bucharest, in Dimitrie Paciurea’s class, crossing paths with Ion Vlasiu or Iosif Fekete, among others. Throughout the 30s he exhibited at the Official Salon, as well as within Our Group, and in 1937 he participated in the International Exhibition of Paris, on which occasion he collaborated with Cornel Medrea to decorate Romania’s Pavilion. The artist’s interest in culture exceeded the realm of sculpture, as, in the 30s, he was editor of the "Arta și Omul" ("Art and Man") Magazine (1933).
