The artwork is reproduced in the album "Gheorghe PetraÈcu", Vasile Florea, Bucharest, 1970, at p. 23. The artwork participated in the exhibition "Gheorghe PetraÈcu", The R.S.R. Museum of Art, Bucharest, 1972, organized on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the painterâs birth and is reproduced in the exhibition catalogue at cat. 30, under the title "Intrare la mÄnÄstire" ("Entrance to the monastery").

After 1922, the year in which he built a workshop-house in Târgoviște, Gheorghe Petrașcu returned constantly to the old town in the mountains. His own house, but especially the monastery complex and the manor court with its ruins are motifs that are often approached by the painter in constant search of imposing representations. Constantly attracted by these architectural and historical "permanencies", Petrașcu constantly returns and creates an exceptional cycle around the monastery, both by painting the bell tower, recalling either architectural studies (see the drawings made by Arch. Sterie Becu in 1930), or ethnographic and anthropological studies when he paints the monastery interior. The Romanian Itinerary transforms Petrașcu's work into one with ethnographic touches, intelligently pinpointing the most representative places of that historical continuity and persistence. The ruins of Târgoviște - the old royal residence, the monastic complex of Agapia, Curtea de Argeș, but also the neighbouring areas, the hills (Ro. "muscele"), keepers of Romanian traditions and spirit. Viforâta is also included in this relevant cycle, the monastery near Târgoviște having been in Petrașcu's attention since the beginning of the 20th century, when, in 1901, when he was travelling and painting the places.
