oil on cardboard, 50 x 70 cm, 50 × 70 cm, signed bottom right, with white, "maxy"

Having started his artistic training during the First World War, along with the moderns of the time, the artist Maxy ventured into a new vision in plastic arts, opposed to academicism and to any form of idyllicism. This new vision declared itself to be in the avant-garde, and its promoters aimed to place the new direction in the same field as the already known and established art forms, refreshing the artistic environment with new expressionistic, cubist, futuristic, and constructivist trends. Having established in 1927 "The Academy of Decorative Arts", the artist Maxy voiced an unchecked desire to boost the activity of the institution, making increasingly direct contact with the audience, through numerous artistic manifestations. The result was the opening of brief exhibitions, joined by the artists around the "Contimporanul" magazine, as well as by other guests. During this period, we note in his creation approaches such as the social theme, as well as the theme of the portrait, of still life, or of the nude, which he composes in a cubits manner, without giving up on colour, which, as of that time, was assigned a new value.
