Gifted with great capacity for synthesis and observation, the artist Iser finds his inspiration in the real. This is where he meets the man to whom he dedicates a special place and who remains at the foundation of his entire creation. From the peasants in Argeș to the peasant soldiers, from the creators of culture to the anonymous of circuses and theatres, Iser captures man in numerous states, highlighting him in expressive visual interpretations. One major vein in the creation of the artist Iser is Dobrogea’s space, which took shape around the year 1913, when he came into contact with the conquering world of the tartars and of the Turks. The campaign established here would provide the painter with the chance to meet them up-close, noticing their customs and apparel. Later, around the same area of Dobrogea the series of workshop odalisques arises, painted by the artist in the years 1921-1945, captured in various hypostases and along different spiritual coordinates. Pondering, dressed in shiny silk, in interiors filled with carpets, we find them pious, happy, sensuous, or melancholy. (G.M.)
