An authentic representative of Romanian painting, Ștefan Dimitrescu is deeply rooted in the soul of his people. His palette, made up of vigorous browns and ochres, of heat and sensitivity, arise in his canvases from the land itself, while the frosted blues and greys originate from the vaulted sky. Longing to know his native lands, the painter travels a lot through the grandiose areas of Olt and Făgăraș Mountains, through Moldova or the torrid lands of Dobrogea. Throughout his wanderings, he captured touching views of the landscape, houses, rural interiors, as well as memorable faces of peasant men or women. (G.M.)
