Dumitru Pherekyde (1899-1954), fiu al omului politic Mihail Pherekyde (1842-1926) a fost pictor și sculptor, și membru al celebrei colonii de la Balcic din perioada interbelică. Artistul chiar își ridica o casă pe malul mării între 1937-1938, construcția purtând semnătura arh. Ștefan Balș.
