Research information
A variant of the bronze artwork can be found in the collection of the National Museum of Art of Romania, inv. 528/7174. The bronze work is reproduced in the monography "Paciurea", Ion Frunzetti, Meridiane Publishing House, Bucharest, 1989 on page 93. The detail from the opera is reproduced on the cover of the monography "Paciurea", Ion Frunzetti, Meridiane Publishing House, Bucharest, 1971. The work is a reinterpretation of the subject from the sculpture "RÄstignita" ("Crucified"), statuette made by Paciurea, in 1917, in remembrance of his sister, Ecaterina, who lost the battle with tuberculosis at the early age of 27. With a theme of high emotional intensity, the work introduces us to the deeply human creation of the sculptor who, through symbolic choices and expressionist manner, created in the '20s true sculptural masterpieces.
