The year 1932 marks, in Alexandru Ciucurencu's itinerary, moment of liberation from the reminiscences of academic rigour acquired while studying at Bucharest. The beginning period of his creation is represented by a discreet lyrism, with bright concordances which have a certain musical resonance. On top of the pure, vibrant tones, the artist intervenes with a few accents of black to highlight an outline. In this part, still life and interiors are predominant. The main muse of Ciucurencu will be life itself, represented mainly through female characters. The shining palette of the painter envelops shapes in a warm, fluid light, which enhances the poetic aspects of nature. During this period of research, typical of the third decade of the last century, shades of grey are increasingly present in the artist's work. Ciucurencu does not idylls everyday life aspects of his existence, but he paints according to his own perception. He captures his models in contemplative postures, on the armchair, lying on the couch or reading. He makes a few summary notations of the actual setting and focuses on making a simple, concise drawing. He uses the brush to emphasise the canvas and achieves games of light and transparency by drawing uneven strokes. Ciucurencu will impose himself, at his return in Paris, through his pictorial refinement which abounds in sensitive waves of artistic expression.
