PROVENANCE

the collection of the painter Elena Tacian Baludima.

The intimacy scenes presented by Iser have an important stature, in the entire work, but also as works in their own right. On the sofa, or on the armchair, resting or practicing, Iser’s characters, ballerinas, dancers or simple models are symbols of a far away universe of everyday life. As in the case of oriental scenes and for these works, Iser discovers "the recipe" of the specific atmosphere. If for the drawing of odalisques we are presented with those unmistakable characters in representative interiors, in the case of this composition time the atmosphere is built exclusively around the character. The props are revealing, but the model is the owner of the whole universe and formulates it according to the principles expected by the artist. Dressed revealing, or in specific costume - in the case of ballerinas, they are captured always in postures if not intimate, then as close as possible to daily comfort. The model poses in a relaxed, thinking pose, and often the face conveys both the character's and the painter's feelings. Iser’s models have much more natural appearances than his odalisques, much more set design presented. This is also highlighted by the mode of communication between artist and model, revealed by the frontal gaze of the characters, compared to the hidden or shy gaze of the Turkish girls. We can join this category with the harlequins, dancers or ballet dancers that defined this part of Iser's work, which, influenced exclusively by the typical Parisian expressionism, will become representative of the Romanian interwar art.
