În 1906, cu prilejul Expoziției Jubiliare, guvernul a comandat la Bruxelles o serie de monede, într-un tiraj de aproximativ 3000 de piese, o monedă din aur cu valoarea de 50 de lei, a cărui machetă a fost proiectată de gravorul Alfons Michaux. Pe avers distingem efigia regelui și inscripția "CAROL I REGE AL ROMÂNIEI/1866-1906" iar pe revers se află silueta ecvestră a suveranului într-o imagine din timpul Războiului de Independență și legenda "CAROL I DOMNUL ROMÂNIEI/50 LEI". O mică parte din tiraj a circulat, restul fiind destinat cadourilor de protocol și colecționarilor.
