The visual concept proposed by Francisc Chiuariu manifests itself in a combination of photorealism and abstract art that impresses through its mix of traditional techniques with unconventional materials and surfaces. His plastic discourse underwent several profound, structural transformations. His work focuses on the human being as the focal point, becoming a plea for humanity. The beings populating the artist's universe are dynamic, seeking a distinctive belonging among the desolate urban elements. Known for his versatile and breezy work, Francisc Chiuariu embodies a flamboyant movement specific to the Romanian postmodern wave. Francisc Chiuariu manages to represent, through his authenticity, the postmodern current. Blending an imaginary universe with familiar references from literature, mass media, or the socio-political world. His compositions focus on the human being and the transformations the individual is subjected to by joining society. The inner hiccups faced by his characters in a world marked by anonymous individualism and the regeneration of local myths on a global scale. Thus, his people are strangers, disturbed individuals, caught in a grey, almost abyssal area. In the present work, titled "Dorian Grey", Francisc Chiuariu takes on the myth of a character from universal literature and brings it up to date. The eponymous character from writer Oscar Wilde's novel, Dorian Gray is a character of contrasts, like the individual in the painting. We can say about the artist's painting that it is the central image in the novel's universe, but does not depict decadence, but anonymity. The artist swings between real and imaginary, capturing the essence of the human without revealing too many details. Chiuariu evolves within compositions outlined evasively, using for this portrait a vibrant chromatic palette that abounds in bright shades of brown, amber, pink on a metallic background. His work, paradoxically, becomes a pact between concrete and transfiguration, successfully combining what is tangible with the unnatural imaginary.
