The space outlined by Marin Gherasim becomes more than a direction in Romanian contemporary art, it transcends, in his works, the current and provokes the creation of a new intellectual model. Emblematic painter, Gherasim takes both the symbols of Eastern Christianity and paradigms from the East and gives them a new form, which adapts like language, in any context. The metaphysical dimension predominates in the artist's works. Marin Gherasim looks for the causality of existence in essentialized forms. Thus, using in his art the principle of pars pro toto, the painter renders the whole through fragments, designating the quantum of ideas. Representative for his art are the cycles closely related to sacred symbolism such as "Absida", "Potir", "Cămașa", "Tron". Each element in the art of painter Gherasim has its own place in the universe, designating the signs of sacredness. The images in his paintings can be interpreted like prayers in oil. In spite of the minimalist approach, the subjects treated by Gherasim do not lose their pathos, but, on the contrary, through essentialized symbols, Gherasim emits a concept valid for all successive levels of civilization and history. Thus, in his cycles, the artist explores the symbolism of religious elements, repeating the same element at different existential stages. His struggles are visible in every painting made. He constantly seeks the existence of dichotomy and processes his pictorial discourse according to theoretical and soulful pursuits. "When the painter sketches a gesture, he summons - provokes (inadvertently) a dialogue with the entire history of the arts, the entire history of culture.", Marin Gherasim would say about the artistic act. Thus, Gherasim's work can be interpreted like a universal language, which challenges itself to overcome the status of a single culture. Marin Gherasim worked on the "Thrones" cycle at the end of the '80s and the beginning of the '90s, a new creative stage in his artistic journey. The throne is a symbol associated with divine power since ancient Greece, when it was considered the place dedicated to the gods, the bearers of absolute power. Over time, thrones have carried a special importance, starting with Solomon's throne, mentioned in Chronicles, until the present. Also, the symbol of the throne is associated with God, his throne being the whole sky.
