Representative for global conceptual art, Andrei Cadere is an artist of Romanian origin born in Poland. He will immigrate to France in 1967 and manage to make his mark on the Parisian artistic scene. There, he will develop his conceptual practices influenced by the op art movement and minimalist trends. He was particularly concerned with the relationship of the art object with the art market and distribution systems. Internationally, he remains known for his cylindrical bars made of wood, located at the border between painting and sculptural object, which he often brought uninvited into galleries or public spaces. Organized chromatically according to a well-defined system in which the artist used a set of three primary colors, a set of three secondary colors, and the two non-colors, his bars presented an anomaly that referred to his difficult integration into the system. However, the works produced in Romania, before permanently leaving the country, as is the case with the present work, reveal a different stage in the artist's work, where the figurative meets the abstract.
