Regarded by those who admired and studied his work closely as the "master of warm-cold contrast", Mihai Horea firmly established himself as an abstract artist. Despite studying with Dărăscu, Ressu and Steriadi, thus starting on the path of art from a deeply figurative angle, subject to rigor, he will gradually evolve towards abstract, becoming acquainted with the work of Mattis-Teutsch or Ciucurencu. Thus, the faint resemblances are not haphazard. The artist will be concerned with color studies and will focus his entire plastic stake on contrasts. The transfiguration of the canvas and the sublimation of the shapes will be complemented by the rhythm of the brush strokes that engage the surface of the work in an endless choreography. Developing his colorist skills, Mihai Horea will propose unique chromatic relationships, often working monochrome in geometricized compositions. He will suggest the earth, the sea, or the sky through repetitive strokes, carefully arranged, and will borrow from the lyricism of his brother Ion Horea (poet) in the production of his plastic works.
