Having been represented by the Zeno X Gallery since 2014, Mircea Suciu is one of the artists who placed Romanian art on the international map of contemporary art. His penchant for Belgian art and artists, which developed as early as in college, influenced the mode in which Mircea Suciu elaborated his visual discourse. The artist works with images found in newspapers, in magazines, and un the media, and his themes touch on socio-political and psychological issues, as the artist is interested in evolution, the history of art, identity, and alienation. He participated in several international biennials: Gwangju (South Korea), Prague, Istanbul, Vilnius, and Timișoara. Mircea Suciu’s works have been displayed in the major museums, such as: : Kunstmuseum Bochum, Weserburg Museum in Bremen, Beelden aan Zee Museum in the Hague, the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Espace Louis Vuitton from Paris, Fondation Francès from Senlis, Maison Particulière from Brussels, the MODEM Centre for Modern and Contemporary Art from Debrecen and Mucsarnok Kunsthalle from Budapest. The work included in the auction was commissioned, especially for the Ambassador of India to Romania, in 2000. Thus, his figure dominates the compositional plane, together with specific motifs which remind of India’s history and culture. For instance, in Hindu culture, the elephant is a symbol of royalty, of power, of stateliness. This is also due to mythology, according to which, Indra, the heavenly god, always rides an elephant and acquires extraordinary powers. In the secondary plane, we can note the blooming branches of a tree specific for the area, Basant Rani, whose flowers are often used in traditional medicine.
