Having a marginal role and peripheral significances, still life will be an "admirable refreshment" for the artist Baba. Somewhat more infrequent as a representation, just like the landscape, for that matter, the still life will raise imitative issues which are just as challenging as the nude or the portrait theme. It will manifest itself either autonomously, keeping its monumentality, or integrated in complex contexts. In the case of autonomous still lifes, the subjects will acquire greater compositional significance, their role being that of producing new metamorphoses in terms of the imitative expression and language claimed. Realistic and accurate due to the presence of elements which master their own identity, the images will be at the limit between metaphysical painting and hyper-realistic painting. A thinker of the paint brush and magistral in his simplicity and coherence, the artist will ascribe a marked moral eloquence to the forms, highlighting them by means of intense dialogues between light and darkness, whose drama will be infused directly into the whole, individualizing it. With his thinking directed towards the concrete and realism, the artist becomes the holder of an unlimited repository of understanding for the imitative values, regardless of their manner or trend, giving the imitative notion a very wide sense. The artist will ascribe his own universe to such thinking, a novel universe of his inner background, which will master and govern the creative spirit, as well as its reflexes. (GM)
