PROVENANCE

the Collection of the Burileanu-Boroianu family heirs.

In the age of biotechnology, the artist anticipates the terrifying freedom to shape the human body and, above all, the loss of its integrity. Since 2000, Laura Covaci has gradually come to imagine a post-humanity under the sign of the bioelectronic hybrid. The world in Laura Covaci's paintings is subversive and liberating. The strangeness seems to prevail over the universe imagined by the artist, a universe in which we find baby dolls, humanoid robots, anthropomorphic beings modified in various ways by biotechnology and many others. Laura Covaci harmoniously blends several artistic mediums, from acrylic painting, collage and photomontage to digital painting and 3D modelling. The artist's new digital world is captivating, full of elements plucked from dreamlike-futuristic universes. Mutant dolls, dressed like fairy-tale princesses, with vaporous ruffles, metamorphose into a dystopian setting of a city engulfed by the smog of human pollution. Vegetation appears around the chimera, reborn with it. Change is possible with the reinvention of the species. Her work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and private collections around the world, such as the Grand Palais/SAGA Paris, Le Musee Imaginaire de l'Espace, Galerie Serge Aboukrat, Benetton Foundation, ING Bank, European Development Bank etc.
