Research information

The artwork was part of the "Nobody" exhibition, Timișoara, 2011.

Based on the "Action" series, "Nobody" is made up of 18 characters, nine women and nine men, all of them surprised from behind. The anonymity of these characters is closely related to the boom of the Facebook app, as a gesture of resistance to the current trend of diminishing privacy and individuality, according to the artist: "I made this series when I first got on Facebook and didn't really understand the concept of the virtual friend, the tendency to present yourself as in a sort of social networking office. The series came about as a result of inadvertent camera documentation. I photographed people on the street - most of the time I have the camera with me - I gathered an enormous amount of characters, I would see someone, I liked the way they looked from behind and I didn't dare photograph them from the front, so I gathered a base of thousands of characters. I chose nine men and nine women, the selection was based on the principle of representing the unknown person, neither too young nor too old, about whom you can't know much since you can't see their face. So it invites you to guess what that person is like and again beauty can be everywhere, in the smallest details." The individualization of the characters is done in detail: clothing, haircut, height, weight etc. The work was part of the solo exhibition of the same name in 2011 and it is reproduced in the exhibition catalogue.
