Research information

The artwork was part of the "Painting for thinking" exhibition, Gallery of Contemporary Art, Brukenthal National Museum, Sibiu, February 10 – March 10, 2011 and is reproduced on the cover and in the exhibition catalogue on p. 35, under the title "Nostalgia".

Student of the "Ion Andreescu" Institute of Fine Arts (Cluj-Napoca), together with Petru Feier (1912-1986), the artist Romul Nuțiu will be one of the first representatives of Romanian Abstract Expressionism. He made his debut in 1957, in Timișoara, establishing himself through a figurative painting, with certain expressionist accents. Receptive to the innovative experiences of contemporary art and deepening the possibilities of direct expressiveness of colour, he will abandon the figurative support of the image as its formal elements come to assert their expressive autonomy in new configurations. He will make study trips to Czechoslovakia, U.S.S.R., Yugoslavia and will sustain a fruitful artistic activity, participating in numerous group exhibitions, annual state exhibitions, group exhibitions, both in the country and abroad.
