Research information

The artwork is part of a series of six works, entitled "The Historical Bitches", exhibited at Art Encounters, 2015. The artwork was part of the "National Bitch" personal exhibition, Anaid Art Gallery, 2011.

Controversial artist due to the brutal critical discourse in his works, recently also censored and excluded from a local exhibition, Tara von Neudorf is established in the Romanian art as a master-mapmaker, most of his interventions being interventions on communist didactic maps of geography, biology or history, boycotting propagandistic, informative and formative material up to the most scandalous themes related to the ROC, imperialism, communism, Stephen the Great and all the Romanian voivods, Russia, the USA, Israel, Germany (especially the Nazi one), Ion Iliescu and Klaus Iohannis, capitalism or communism. Winner of the Strabag International Art Award, with solo exhibitions at MODEM, Hungary, TARA's work depicts a state of permanent conflict and anguish that characterizes the contemporary world. The map becomes a manipulative material, on whose surface a series of characters and events from the past and present migrate. A map often describes a problem, which can be explained by the events that preceded and determined it; it is a reference to the history that has been established. On the other hand, history is written in the ground, and not only political history, but also the history of institutions, religion, artistic creation, conflicts, and economic relations. The map becomes a link to a destiny, a situation, a story, a history. The highly suggestive title associates the contemporary female figure with the symbol of the corrupt political leader, preoccupied with their own enrichment.
