Representative of the avant-garde and surrealism, known for a troublingly imaginative, crowded and diverse artistic universe, populated by fantastic forms, hybrid creatures and mysterious symbols. His style is characterized by exceptional formal freedom. The artist creates an imaginary that evokes both dream and nightmare, exploring themes related to the subconscious, dream, irony, and absurdity. His works are loaded with fantastic details and allegories, offering a complex reflection on the human state and condition. Jules Perahim's art has a fluid journey, but is constantly influenced by his ideological interests, being a significant representative of Romanian surrealism. In his works we often find phantasmagoric characters, encompassed in a utopian universe as well as in a simultaneously two-dimensional and three-dimensional space. The chimeras with eccentric features are placed in an uncertain space, known only to the artist. Concerning the work at hand, which we can situate in the 1970s when he begins to execute such works, with inert characters, with robust forms and volumes and without many facial expressions. The scene takes place in a closed space, like a metallic construction, representing two static characters, one male and the other female in red color. The characters are represented nude, standing next to each other, on a bench inside the construction, looking at the viewer. This approach emphasizes that, in his art, the real world and the imaginary world coexist and complement each other, opening the door to a universe whose meanings are expected to be rediscovered. He incorporates fantastic and utopian characters to create and give meaning to his scenes, and create his own fantastic universe, where he can thereby introduce viewers to his world, bearing witness to what is to come.
