The artwork represents a significant work about the philosopher Philostrat of Lemnos and his inspired movement. The text was translated and established by Blaise de Vigenère (1523-1596), French diplomat, alchemist and humanist, who did not see his work published. The engravings illustrating the volume are made by the artists Léonard Gautier and Thomas de Leu, after sketches by Antoine Caron and Jasper Isaac. The binding of the exemplar is from the XVIII century, with cardboard covers dressed in leather. The corners show signs of age and the spine has been restored.
