219. "Map 'Dacia', by Sebastian Münster, after 'Ptolemy's Geography', Basel, circa 1550"

The map depicts Dacia as it appears in the version of "Ptolemy's Geography" reconfigured by the German cartographer Sebastian Münster. Dacia appears in all four editions of this work. On the print, there are inserted boxes with explanatory texts, relating to locations and population. On the verso, within an ornate border with Renaissance elements, the main locations of the presented territories are mentioned. Also on the verso are two stamped ex-libris of the collector Gheorghe Răut, signs that attest to the presence of the piece in the famous collection at one point.
