222. "Map 'Transylvania', by Sebastian Münster, Basel, mid 17th century"

The German cosmographer and cartographer Samuel Münster (1488-1552), a professor at the University of Basel, created his famous work "Cosmographia", first published in 1544. The work had 24 editions by the end of the eighteenth century. This copy is part of an edition published in the middle of the seventeenth century. Copper engraving manually colored after printing.
