Between 1941 and 1945, Mircea Eliade worked as a diplomatic secretary responsible for the press and cultural affairs within the diplomatic representation of Romania in Portugal. The work represents his admiring treatment of the fascist regime of Portuguese dictator Antonio Salazar, published in Bucharest in 1942. The copy stands out due to a bibliophile binding, with an elegant leather binding and gilded cuts. The copy includes a handwritten dedication, signed in 1944 by the author to conductor George Georgescu and his wife.
