"Das Bedrängte Dacia" is a historical work referring to Transylvania, whose author was Bethlen János (1613-1678), an important politician, Chancellor of Transylvania; he also pursued a military career, being one of the commanders of the Transylvanian armies. The subject of the work constitutes the history of Transylvania from the death of Prince Gabriel Bethlen to the ascension to the throne of Prince Mihail Apafi I, events that were experienced by the author himself. The first edition of the work was printed in Sibiu in 1663, under the following title: Rerum Transylvanicarum libri quatuor. The copy belongs to the only German edition published in the 17th century, the translator of the text was Johann Tröster, a well-known Saxon historian from Transylvania, he himself being the author of a similar work. The title is listed in the specialized Hungarian bibliography: Szabó Károly, "Régi magyar könyvtár", vol. III: A magyar szerzőktől külföldön 1480-tól 1711-ig megjelent nem magyar nyelvű nyomtatványok könyvészeti kézikönyve, Budapest, 1896, no. 2355.
"Das Alt-und Neu-Teutsche Dacia. Das ist: Neue Beschreibung des Landes Siebenbürgen" is a book with a historical theme, referring to Transylvania, whose author was Johann Tröster, a well-known Transylvanian Saxon historian, with studies at the Sibiu gymnasium (1651-1652), between 1662-1666 being in Nürnberg, probably for academic studies. He was a private tutor at the Bethlen family residence in Brâncovenești (Mureș County) between 1658-1662; upon returning to Transylvania he was appointed rector of the Cincu school. He is the author of two books with a historical theme, both listed in the Hungarian bibliography.
The binding of the volume, of modern design, is made of cardboard covered in cloth with floral prints, the corners and spine are made of green leather. The spine has gilded floral ornaments framing the following text: "Bethlen - Tröster Dacia 1. - 2.". The conservation status of the binding is good, signs of wear are visible. The body of the book is also in good condition, with visible signs of wear, browning of the paper support.
