Baptiste Homann (1664-1724) was a German engraver and cartographer born in Nürnberg. In 1702 he founded his own publishing house, and in 1715 he was appointed imperial geographer by Emperor Charles VI as a result of the success of his works. In the same year, he was also appointed a member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences in Berlin. In 1716, Homann published his most important work, "The Great Atlas of the Whole World," of which this piece is a part, from an 1723 edition.
