"† With the mercy of God, I am Gabriel Mogyla Voivode and ruler of all the land of Ungrovlahiei, son of the great and very good deceased Io. Simeon Mogila Voivode. I, my lordship, give this command of my dominion to Prepuse with his sons, as many as God will give him, for the village Pomărlul in the Mehedinţi county, with all its boundary and with all its land and with all its neighbors and with all income from everywhere, as much will be selected from the boundary to the boundary. Because the above mentioned village, it was inherited from the master Lupul Paharnicul. And after that, during the days of my reign, both lady Anca and lady Samfira, daughters of Lupuloharnic, they have gifted and bestowed upon the servants of their father Lupul Paharnic, namely Prepusa and Calotă, with this above-mentioned Pomărlul village for the great service they served to their father and especially because they brought their father Lupul Paharnie, from Vad, from Dârstor, from the bridge, from the village Ciocăneștii, where Schinder-Pasa killed him and buried him at the holy Monastery of Tismana. Therefore, they sought these above mentioned ladies, and they bestowed upon Prepusa and Calotă with this above mentioned Pomărlul village, for the soul of Lupul paharnic, for his eternal remembrance. I have seen my dominion and their will made with great curse and with many boyars testimony, namely: Răducanul Postelnic and lady Brîndușa and Manole and Pătru Armașul and Abbot Nifon and Preda Portman and Stoica Postelnic and Mateiu and Frățilă and Burțun and Grecul and Stan and Dumitru Postelnic, Pavel. Lady Anca and lady Samfira and they have put a curse on any of their relatives who will want to cross and destroy this donation and mercy they gave for their father Lupul paharnic, he shall be cursed by the 318 (saint) parents, who are from Niceea and will have part with Judas and Arie. Because Calotă made a deal with Prepusa, they from their own free will, and Prepusa gave back to Calotă 8000 aspri and a bull for his part from Ponorăl, as it is written above and Prepusa bought from Calotă from him, as it is written above. And Calotă sold his part half of a village from his good will and with the knowledge of all the peasants and before my dominion. And there were a great number of good men witnesses at their deal, namely: Aldea Postelnic and Miharș Postelnic and Andronie from Albeni and Malcoci(?) the servant and Preda Portman from Ceplea and from Filiași Dumitru and Barbul from Poiana. Rightly so I have given and my dominion to Prepusa, for him to have the Ponorăl village as an inherited estate and ohabnica him, sons and grandsons and great-grandsons, and unshaken by anyone according to the command of my dominion. Here are my witnesses I put: Jupan Enache or Craiova Ban and Jupan or chamberlain and jupan Papa or Logofăt and Meca the treasurer and Miho Swordsman and Mihalachi Butler and Gregory commissioner and Vladul Paharnic and jupan ____ Postelnic and official Papa or Logofăt. And I, Lepădat Logofăt, wrote in the Castle seat named Târgoviște, January 22, and since Adam until now the course of the years in the year 7127(?). Io Gabriel Mogila Voivode by the grace of God ruler. Io Gabriel Voivode." The document is drafted on parchment by Lepadat Logofat and issued at the residence in Târgoviște of Voivode Gavril Movilă (1618-1620) on January 22, 1619 (7127), in the Slavonic language which was the language of culture and the language of the boyar chancelleries in the Middle Ages. The text of the document confirms the grant (donation) of mistresses Anca and Samfira to Precisa and Calotă, servants of their father, Lupu Paharnic. The grant is the village of Ponărăl in Mehedinţi county and it was offered as a reward for bringing the lifeless body of the cupbearer, killed in the battle of Ciocănești, and buried at Tismana monastery. The document also mentions the agreement between Precisa and Calot, with Calot receiving 8000 aspri and a bull in return for giving up his part of the village to Precisa. The document has uneven margins and shows traces of later refurbishing. At the bottom of the page there is a note in Romanian referring to an event that took place on December 20th, 1785, when this diploma was saved from Ottoman-occupied Cladova, at great expense, by mistress Ana. The document is written in black and red ink, beautifully decorated with plant and geometric motifs, with archaic calligraphy. It is in a medium state of preservation due to the passage of time and past improper storage conditions. Voivode Gabriel Movilă ruled Wallachia between 1618 and 1620. He came from the powerful family of Moldovan boyars Movilă, a family that burst forth several rulers and scholars, the most famous of whom are Jeremiah and Simion, the father of Gabriel. With the Movile family came into conflict Michael the Brave, after whose death he followed on the throne of Wallachia, Simion Movilă, named the ruler with Polish help. The Wallachian boyars did not accept a Voivode with Moldovan origins at their head and managed to remove Gabriel from the throne after a short reign.
