Regardless of the theme or motive addressed, Ion Alin Gheorghiu will classicize popular forms and attribute lyrical valences to his works. The imaginative-abstract adventure that starts from the series "Hanging Gardens" which he discovers in Jacques Prévert's texts and up to the more sober and mystical cycles, reveals the musicality of the canvases and sculptural forms that capture the artist's emotions. Starting from the premise that "the whole point is to get rid of Luchian's flowers, Cézanne's apple, Braque's guitar, etc.", Ion Alin Gheorghiu will free himself from the undoubted power of mimesis and will gradually find his own semantics. He will express himself both plastically and pictorially, and he will often transcribe his graphic experiments into three-dimensional volumes. Conceived as an extension of his creation, the sculptural work of the artist will treat, under the auspices of the same ancestral depth, variations on border themes. Chimeras, the theme in which the present work is also included, become alternative encodings of his pictorial motifs. Subject to cyclical unfolding, Ion Alin Gheorghiu's sculpture can therefore be perceived as a complementary way to analyze similar concepts.
