Felix Potin was a French businessman who invented the great department store, that is, a grandiose type of store where shoppers could find whatever they wanted. To advertise these stores, he edited a series with the sovereigns of the world in the form of heliograves, such as the present piece depicting King Carol I. The piece is framed in a beautiful vintage miniature frame made of metal and enamel.
