"The Fighter" is a biographical drama that follows the life of athletes Micky Ward (played by Mark Wahlberg) and Dicky Eklund (Christian Bale). The film was inspired by the 1995 documentary: "High on Crack Street: Lost Lives in Lowell". Micky Ward is a middleweight boxer, whose manager is his own mother, and his coach is his half-brother, Dicky, a former professional athlete, who even competed with Sugar Lay Leonard in 1978, but has since become dependent on cocaine. Dicky believes that he is being filmed by HBO for a documentary about his comeback in sports. The two, Alice and Dicky, arrange an underground match for Micky, a match during which his opponent is much more massive and better prepared, being trained for heavy category. Micky hesitates, but convinced by the two family members who are more interested in the financial benefits, he enters the game. He is defeated and from here unfolds a series of successive actions that lead to the cooling of family relations and in addition to the launch of the HBO documentary, which was actually about drug use among former athletes.
