Research information

The artwork is reproduced on the first cover of the monograph "Samuel Mützner", Rodica Marian, Antet Publishing House, Bucharest, 2005, under the title "Pictorul și soția" ("The painter and his wife").

Around the '20s the painter's attention will turn to the local subject, conducting a steady activity in Șopârlița, where his wife, Rodica Maniu had received as dowry an estate, given by her grandmother on her mother's side, Smaranda Călinescu. Surrounded by nature, the subjects will be diverse, the views offered by this space resulting in works such as: "Valea Oltețului" ("Oltețului Valley"), "Peisaj pe Valea Oltețului" ("Landscape on Oltețului Valley"), "Toamna la Șopârlița" ("Autumn at Șopârlița"), "Curci la Șopârlița" ("Turkey hens at Șopârlița"), "Primăvară la Șopârlița" ("Spring at Șopârlița") or "Autoportret la șevalet" ("Self-portrait at the easel").
