acrylic on canvas, 85 x 100 cm, 85 × 100 cm, signed and dated upper right, with black, "Ilfoveanu, 2022"

Sorin Ilfoveanu does not focus on details, does not adhere to Naturalism, nor does he aim to paint as for an instant photograph. Reality is not expressive enough for him, and that is why he would search his own imaginary for motifs and symbols worth transposing on canvas. He no longer uses real time and space as a guiding force, and instead he tends to express the permanent nature of feelings. As per custom, in the current work, the sign-character also become the central point of his creation. Animals are purposefully blended with human representations; and the colour scheme amplifies the meaning that the artist assigns to his drawing. In Sorin Ilfoveanu's work, the drawing becomes pictorial, and the painting seems to be drawn. There have been various meanings assigned to the couple on canvas: the man is crowned by the presence of the peacock - symbol of magnificence and beauty, and the woman is captured holding a bunch of flowers in her hand - flowers being often associated with the virginal age of feminine characters. Everything takes place - in just a few summarily sketched details - on a green background, symbol of rebirth, of renewal, or even of immortality - a shade which can be interpreted in the key of the couple's immortality.
