Research information

The artwork is reproduced under the name "Salcia plângătoare" in "Calendarul Minervei", 1925.

Ion Dimitriu Bârlad left behind a true collection dedicated to some important Romanian personalities. In his creation we encounter bust sculptures executed in marble, bronze or cast, representing monumental characters of Romanian culture, history, science or politics. King Ferdinand, Queen Marie, King Carol II, Titu Maiorescu, Spiru Haret, Mihai Eminescu, Michael the Brave, Ion Creangă, George Enescu, Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej or Aurel Vlaicu are just a few of the figures sculpted by Dimitriu Bârlad. These works belong either to public institutions such as the Ministry of Arts, the Romanian Athenaeum, the Military Museum of Bucharest, or to private collections. The sculptor began his studies at the Bucharest Academy of Fine Arts, under the guidance of Dimitrie Paciurea and Frederic Storck, and completed them at the Julian Academy in Paris, where the guides throughout his artistic path were Paul Landowski and Henri Bouchard.
