Adept of classic styles and focused on a narrow thematic range, the artist Gheorghe Petrașcu is the author of a tangible type of art, breaking away from the reality of everyday life, from the places he visits, or from the contact he has with those around him. He most often insists on a domestic, intimate universe, where we find the interiors, still life, flowers, nudes, and portraits, elements of a universe in which the artist encounters his vocation. Treated in an intimate setting, the themes, modest in essence, are treated by the artist in serious interpretations and chromatic brilliance, qualities that ennoble the surfaces of his canvases. An admirable color master, the artist builds directly in color, the material gaining a particular consistency and mineral effect under his brush, also revealing a strong tactile instinct. One of the preferred genres of his mature period, responding to his preferences for immobile reality will be still life. Varied and expert in compositional arrangement, this genre will include in its repertoire repeated motifs close to the studio space - books, flowers, pots, fruit bowls, kettles, pots, jars with brushes - all enveloped by the artist in a precious, sculptural color.
