205. Intimacy

A childhood friend of Ion Minulescu, Iser would provide, like the great poet, a significant influence on Romanian culture through a universal pictorial creation. With a liking for Expressionism, but also for Modernist French movements, Iser resided for decades in the capital of arts, Paris being more than a second home for him, the place for great successes outside Romania. Out of the numerous things worth mentioning, one must remember the great compositions of oriental inspiration, as Iser is also one of the first painters to discover and paint Balchik from where he “stole” the odalisque theme, falling into a cycle as relevant as the one by Henri Matisse.
