PROVENANCE

historic collection of engineer Constantin Bușilă (1877-1950); historic collection of Acad. George Georgescu (1887-1964). The painting most likely passed from one collection to the next through Tutu Georgescu (1912-2008), the adopted daughter of Constantin Bușilă, who married composer and conductor George Georgescu in 1933. An exceptional figure of Romanian culture, George Georgescu became one of the most important conductors worldwide as early as the interwar period. From the first concerto conducted at the Romanian Athenaeum in 1920 until his last year, in 1964, Georgescu left his mark on the musical phenomenon, occupying, in turn, the positions of artistic director of the "Philharmonic Society" of Bucharest, conductor of the New York and Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestras, director of the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra (until 1944), director of the National Radio Orchestra (after 1947) and for the last ten years of his life, once again director of the Bucharest Philharmonic, a period in which he organised and supervised the inauguration of "George Enescu" Festival; collection of G. Georgescu's family.
