Toma Trifonovski graduated from the Art Academy in Sofia in 1966 and from the beginning of the 1970s actively entered the official artistic life of the country. Along with artists such as Dimitar Buyukliyski and Ivan Dimov, he is representative of the so-called "hyperrealist line" in Bulgarian art, which developed parallel to the naive style line during the dynamic decade of The 70s. Toma Trifonovski works mainly in the portrait and interior genres. His paintings distinguished by frugal and elegant aesthetics, simple composition, clear construction shape and bright intense color. The artist has a special interest in the lady's portrait. "The Lady with the Red Scarf" is emblematic of the artist's work because presents all the characteristic features of his style - the closely framed portrait in profile to left, clean and clear form, directional lighting, bright contrasts between hot and cold, light and shadow. The oil paint is laid on large flat fields, without distinct brush marks. It depicts a young woman with a graceful profile, dark big eyes and red lips. The hair is tied with a red scarf, which is in harmony with reds earrings and a red blouse. The background is in oxide green, which emphasizes the values of the red. (S.N.)
