After his return to the country, in 1923, Samuel Mützner assumes rural life as the main theme of his work. He elevates the rural space to the rank of art and captures the local color of rustic life. Alongside his wife, the painter Rodica Maniu, he creates in the village in which she inherits a small property, in Olt county. The house hidden under the shade of the trees reveals to the two artists a unique setting. Samuel Mützner, however, has a preferred spot from which he works, near a tree, a place from which he can admire the poplars and willows of the village. He creates in the open air and travels through numerous regions which he gradually incorporates into his canvases. At other times, he arrives in the area of springs near the field and models his chromatic palette according to the evolution of nature. He often paints surrounded by the children of the village, curious to learn the craft of the master who came from the city. He captures landscapes with hills, fields or cornfields, and focuses on representing the seasons, under the seal of which he paints. He works with short, rapid brush strokes, harmoniously juxtaposed, and adjusts his light according to the time of day, space, and season. Haystacks become a recurring motif in his work, and the subject will be revisited, at some point, in a similar piece. The current work is dedicated only to nature, the characters not making their presence felt this time. We note the spread recorded in shades of orange of the field, as well as the piles of hay carefully gathered in the form of several haystacks.
