Considered one of the most important painters of the early 20th century, Petrașcu was noted by Nicolae Grigorescu and G.D. Mirea and would, through the lens of his vocation, professionally develop during his study trips abroad. His painting is dense, with a solid composition and a strong force of expression. He painted numerous landscapes both in Romania and on his travels abroad. His landscapes are not just renditions of nature but express a state of mind such as melancholy, peace, and mystery. The present work, which is dated 1922, is part of the series of works that he will produce during this period following the trips he will make to the Black Sea or Balcic. The work captures a landscape that unfolds on the bank of the Danube at Silistra at dusk. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful, capturing a few of the fishermen's boats that are at the shore at this moment. The work has dense, rich, and consistent colors, with blue being the predominant color of the scene, along with shades of red and black in the realization of the boats.
